Dublin Statement is also known as Dublin Statement on Water and Sustainable Development is famous for its four concluding principals called Dublin Principals. The conference was organized by ICWE (International Conference on Water and Environment ), and was held in Dublin, Ireland in 1992. The conference was a form of last preparatory meeting
before the coming "Earth Summit" by UNCED (United Nations Conference on Environment and Development).
Dublin Principals
Dublin conference ended with following four guiding principals
- Fresh water is a finite and vulnerable resource essential to sustain life, development and environment.
- Water development and management should be based upon participatory approach, involving end users, planners,and policy makers at all levels
- Women play a central part in the provision, management, and safe guarding water.
- Water has economic value in all its competing uses and should be recognized as economic good.
